Description

Description

The ELEVATE (Empowering Learners’ EU Values And Teaching Engagement) project is a initiative that seeks to improve EU literacy and democratic engagement at Mimers Hus Gymnasium in Sweden by incorporating European Union focused education into the curriculum. Addressing a critical gap in EU knowledge among students and teachers, the project is in line with the goals of the Jean Monnet Learning EU initiative, which includes enabling educators, encouraging innovative teaching strategies, and preparing students to exercise their civic rights. The project will be achieved through four key strategies: (1) systematic teacher training programs for the enhancement of teachers' proficiency in EU education; (2) the creation and application of an EU-related curriculum for first-year students; (3) practical learning experiences including educational trips to Stockholm and Brussels, role-play exercises, and direct communication with EU institutions; and (4) The establishment of a Student EU Ambassador Program to promote peer teaching and student-led EU initiatives. The project directly contributes to the Jean Monnet Learning EU objectives by improving learning outcomes on EU matters, fostering critical thinking, and strengthening EU literacy. Through the use of creative strategies in teaching and learning, the ELEVATE project will provide students with a clear understanding of the EU institutions, policies, and values. It will also establish a context in which young citizens are more ready to participate in democratic life at the national as well as the EU level. As a result of integrating EU-focused content into the curriculum and ensuring sustainability through the provision of teacher training and institutional support, the project will ensure that the impact will last beyond the duration of the project.
