Description

Description

Europe faces a multitude of challenges ranging from extreme weather events to geopolitical tensions and economic inequalities. The Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) recognizes the urgent need for action and has devised a comprehensive strategy to address these pressing issues. CEMR's approach focus on empowering Local and Regional Governments (LRGs) to tackle the challenges effectively. This involves close collaboration with European policymakers to tailor policies to specific contexts and territories. Key focus areas include promoting gender equality, multilevel governance, local democracy, citizenship, migration inclusion, and revitalizing town twinning. Initiatives such as the European Charter for Equality and the Expert Group on Migration and Inclusion underscore CEMR's commitment to advancing gender equality and addressing migration challenges. Furthermore, CEMR is actively engaged in governance, democracy, and citizenship issues, including territorial reforms and combating disinformation. Central to CEMR's efforts is the revitalization of town twinning, leveraging its historical significance for cross-border cooperation. Aligning with its new approach CEMR plans to provide support and training on EU funding for member associations engaged in town twinning activities.
