Description | AGL Energy plans to build and operate a fleet of 16 community batteries, each 700 kW / 1,828 kWh, across metropolitan and regional South Australia as part of the state government's emPowering SA community battery project. These batteries will operate alongside two existing 150 kW / 405 kWh batteries in Adelaide suburbs, delivering a total of 11.5 MW of flexible storage assets. The batteries will be owned by the South Australian government and operated by AGL, integrated with AGL's existing Virtual Power Plant including solar and Tesla Powerwall home battery systems. The project aims to maximize local use of cheap solar energy, store excess renewable energy, and provide benefits to households unable to access renewable energy technologies, especially social housing tenants and those experiencing financial hardship. |
