This module, entitled ‘Empowering Youth Participation through EU Values (EUTHPART)’ aims to introduce the European democratic values to the university students, raise young people's awareness about European common values and fundamental rights and thusly empower youth participation in Turkey. As such, the overall aim of the project complements the priorities set out in the European Union Youth Strategy 2019-2027. EUTHPART proposes two undergraduate and one graduate elective courses that introduce the conceptual and analytical framework of democratic values, political participation and democratic practices in the EU. The courses will be offered online by the Department of Political Science and International Relations and Institute of European Union and International Studies' at Yeditepe University. The digitalisation of the module will open up the registration to all university students in Turkey, enabling access to less advantageous communities and students who do not have greater exposure with the EU studies. The courses offered throughout the project will use flipped classroom technique. This will allow the students to lead their learning processes, to learn at their own paces. The courses will be complemented with five joint workshops with non governmental organisations and three democratic participation workshops which are meticulously designed to equip the students with the necessary information and skills to assess, discuss and contribute to the internalization of European democratic norms. The impact of EUTHPART’s teaching, training and practice activities will be empirically measured via online surveys and two research articles will be published in international peer-reviewed academic journals. An academic workshop followed by an edited book with researchers working on EU democratic values and political participation will generate scholarly discussion and fresh insights on the EU’s policy making and global role.
