The project Empowerment for Diversity (E4D) focuses on the grounds of sexual orientation, gender identity, sex characteristics and gender expression. The project is designed around Malta’s unique situation in the LGBTI field whereby in the past 5 years, Malta has passed several important legislations thereby placing it at the forefront of the LGBTI rights. Given the significant changes which came about in a relatively short timespan, NCPE has identified the need to address the societal and cultural impact. E4D will be introduced to the general public, the LGBTI target group and relevant stakeholders through a launch conference. A qualitative study on the current situation in Malta regarding LGBTI discrimination will be conducted. This will be both a comparative analysis with a similar research study conducted by NCPE in 2011 as well as include updates with regards to the recently-adopted legislation and a wider remit for NCPE. 3 workshops will be hosted with members of the LGBTI community with the aim of discussing the issues being faced by the LGBTI community, identifying the needs to be addressed, and the current deterrents resulting in underreporting. A report of these workshops will be published. NCPE will receive legal training on the laws of Malta and training on how to address underreporting, mainstreaming LGBTI policies, and outreach amongst others, resulting in a report. Templates of the equality policy and the sexual harassment policy will be uploaded on NCPE’s website. As part of the outreach of the project, NCPE will take part in the Malta Pride Parades of 2021 and 2022, thereby maximising its exposure with the LGBTI community, and present the project, its aims and activities during the 2021 Malta Pride Week whilst presenting the project outcomes a year later at the 2022 Pride Week.NCPE and ARC, will launch an awareness-raising campaign and present the findings of the project and the evaluation study in a final conference.
