Description
Description | In November of 1993, the Government of São Tomé and Principe awarded Safege, a subsidiary of Lyonnaise des Eaux and Dumez (the water subsidiary of the company later known as SUEZ) a 3-year management contract to operate Empresa de Agua e Electricidade (EMAE), the integrated water and electricity state-owned utility. At the time of award, EMAE had a total generating capacity of 4.76-MW as well as 80km of 30kv and 40km of 6kv of transmission lines. The initiative was backed by a FF6.2 (approximately US$ 1.0 million) grant from a French official development agency, Fonds d'Aide et de Cooperation (FAC). In 1996 the contract term concluded and the government did not extend the contract. EMAE returned to state ownership and operation. http://www.africaintelligence.com/AEM/archives/default_archives.asp?num=89&year= |
