The consortium won the concession when the Bolivian government decided to award concessions to run its two railways under the government's new capitalization process. Under capitalization, private companies purchase a 50% stake in government utilities, but this remains as equity in the project company and is used for investment. The consortium pays an annual lease fee to the government. Empresa Ferroviaria Andina (EFA) won its concession on March 16, 1996. The company's sponsors are Empresa Cruz Blanca (CB Group, Chile - 17%) and Antofagasta and Boliva Railway plc (FCAB - 33%). FCAB is owned by Luksic Group of Chile. EFA made an initial investment of US$ 13.25 million for 50% of the company. EFA pays an annual lease fee of US$418,000. It has made no additional investments and has none planned. None None |
