Description
Description | The transmission project comprises a 500 Kv transmission line connecting Tucurui, Maraba, and Acailandia substations. The total length of the line will be 469 KM. In addition to building and operating the transmission line, the project also comprises the construction of Acailandia substation and the expansion of the other substations involved. The project will increase the interconnection between the north and northeast regions. The project is the fourth connection circuit between Tucurui and Acailandia being part of a larger project linking the north and northeast substations. The third section of the north-northeast connection is under control of Empresa Amazonense de Transmissao de Energia (EATE), a consortium between Schanin and Alusa, with the state-owned company Electrobras. In this fourth section of the north-northeast interconnection, Electrobras is not part of the consortium. Initially the company responsible for the project, Empresa Norte de Transmissao de Enrgia S.A. (ENTE), was held by a consortium of Alusa and Schahin. By 2006, the project ownership was Alusa 50%, Cemig 18%, Brascan 18% and Montana-Dakota Utilities Company 14% ANEEL, the Brazilian independent regulatory agency for the electricity sector, offered through public bid the concession for the lines in August, 2002. Consorcio C4, composed by Schanin and Cia Tecnica de Engenharia Eletrica was the winner for offering the lowest price for an annual revenue in exchange for the electricity transmission services: US$24.5 million (R$72.9 million). The contract between ANEEL and ENTE was signed in December 2002 and it will be valid until December 2032. According to the contract, the lines were expected to become operational within 24 months of signature. The project reached financial closure in March 2004 when Brazil's Development Bank, BNDES, approved a financing package of US$106.7 million (R$296.7 million) for the project. The contract with BNDES was signed in July 2004 and operations commenced in October 2004. None None |
