The project developed by the ENC Energy Group, in the area of biogas energy recovery in Brazil, has the support of SOFID through the partnership with Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD) which translates into the distribution of credit risk, through the provision of a bank guarantee in favor of Valorgas. The identification of opportunities for energy recovery from biogas was the first step in the internationalization process of the ENC Energy Group to Brazil, in 2011. Valorgas is the result of the commercial partnership between the ENC Energy Group and the company Vital Engenharia Ambiental, S.A., belonging to Queiroz Galvão Group. This partnership allows the exploration and energy recovery of biogas collected at the Juiz de Fora Waste Treatment Center (CTR-JF), namely through the production of electricity. In 2013, the ENC Energy Group installed a Thermoelectric Power Generation Unit (UTE) at CTR-JF, starting the first phase of the Valorgas project. In October of that year, the UTE, with a generation capacity of 1.4 MW, began injecting electricity into the grid for sale to customers, after which an investment was made to expand the UTE's capacity to 4.3 MW. The nature of this project implies a set of benefits underlying the treatment of biogas, especially in terms of environmental impacts. The installation and expansion of the Juiz de Fora UTE will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality in the region and reduce odors released by the landfill, at the same time as producing electricity from a renewable source. which, without the existence of this project, would be wasted. This project extends until 2032, the date on which the CTR-JF concession contract ends, and represents the first of two electrical generation plants using landfill biogas already installed by the ENC Group in Brazil.
