Description

Energia Cassol, a family-owned company, is the first independent power producer to operate in the state of Rondonia in Northern Brazil. Energia Cassol started its commercial operation in 1993, when construction works in its first unit were concluded (Santa Luzia - 3.2 MW). In 1995, a new unit with 2.8-MW capacity started operating (Usina Vilhena). Finally, in 2000, the construction works on the 4.6 MW Monte Belo unit were in its final stages (this unit demanded an investment of US$ 4.4 million, of which US$ 2.4 million was financed with loans from Banco da Amazonia (BASA). In June 2003, BNDES approved a US$4 million (R$12.25 million) financing for the construction of the Rio Branco power plant (6.9 MW) and a 94Km transmission line. The financing represents 63% of the total costs of the project. As of June 2003, Energia Cassol was negotiating a PPA to sell the energy generated by Rio Branco (42,300MWh per year) to CERON, a distribution company in the state of Rondonia. In April 2011, the 3.6 MW Angelo Cassol power plant commenced operations. The investment amount directed to this unit was not available.
