Description

Description

As part of the FC measure, the state-owned energy service provider Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) will be provided with a low-interest loan to structure, finance and implement investments in energy efficiency. The current focus is on reducing energy consumption for lighting through LED technology; other options include replacing pumps in agriculture and financing energy-efficient fans and air conditioning systems. The measure is directly linked to the Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings and Infrastructure project (BMZ No. 2010 66 265) currently under implementation. The aim of the project is to achieve more efficient energy use in subsectors with considerable energy-saving potential (e.g. public infrastructure, agriculture and households) and a related reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. The project thus contributes to a broad-based, technically and economically efficient as well as socially and ecologically sustainable energy supply in India (DC program objective). The target group are public and private institutions that want to make investments in energy efficiency in cooperation with EESL as an energy service company. The total cost of the project is expected to be around EUR 240 million. The German contribution is expected to amount to up to EUR 200 million and will be provided as a low-interest loan. The project is being carried out within the framework of the German Climate Technology Initiative (DKTI). The Republic of India is providing a full state guarantee for the transaction.
