Energy efficiency in municipalities

The public buildings operated by municipalities in Ukraine currently have a high energy consumption, which results in high costs for the municipalities. There is currently a lack of sufficient funds or even incentives to renovate municipal buildings professionally and in an energy-efficient manner. The aim of the investment measure is therefore to renovate selected municipal infrastructure in order to reduce the annual energy requirements of these municipalities by at least 20%. To this end, up to 70 schools and kindergartens in the cities of Zhytomyr and Zaporizhzhia are to be rehabilitated in an energy-efficient manner in this module of the overarching development cooperation program Energy Efficiency in Ukraine. The target group of the module is around 36,000 schoolchildren and kindergarten children, as well as around 5,400 teaching staff, supervisors and technical employees of the respective schools and kindergartens, who will benefit above all from the improved teaching and working conditions resulting from the renovation. The recipient of the loan is the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, represented by the Ministry of Finance. The project sponsors are the municipalities of Zhytomyr and Zaporizhzhia.
