Description

Description

As part of the FC measure, the state-owned company Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) will be provided with a low-interest loan to structure, finance and implement investments in energy efficiency. The project sponsor and borrower is EESL, founded in 2009. The aim of the project is to achieve more efficient energy use in subsectors with high energy requirements (e.g. public buildings and infrastructure, agriculture and industry) and a corresponding reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, the project sponsor's activity as an energy service provider (Energy Service Company (ESCO)) is to be institutionalized as a long-term viable business area. The project thus contributes to a broad-based, technically and economically efficient as well as socially and ecologically sustainable energy supply in India (DC program objective). The target group are public and private institutions that want to make investments in energy efficiency with the involvement of ESCOs. The total cost of the project is expected to be around EUR 70 million. The German contribution is to amount to up to EUR 50 million and will be provided as a low-interest loan. In addition, an accompanying measure of EUR 1.5 million is planned. The project is being carried out within the framework of the German Climate Technology Initiative (DKTI, formerly IKLU). The Republic of India is providing a full state guarantee for the transaction.
