Description
Description | The Energy Efficiency in Urban Networks project is conceptually linked to the rural network projects already underway (BMZ No. 2009 66 663 and 2011 66 511). The focus of the project is the expansion and modernization of the transmission and distribution networks in the metropolitan areas of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC). To this end, sub-projects are being carried out in those parts of the network that have become loss-making bottlenecks due to the sharp increase in electricity consumption. The aim of the measures is to significantly reduce electricity losses and specific CO2 emissions in Hanoi and HCMC and to contribute to a reliable, long-term, and environmentally friendly electricity supply. An estimated 1.3 million people are expected to benefit from the project. The total volume of the project is expected to be around EUR 117 million, which will be financed through a loan from the Initiative for Climate and Environmental Protection (IKLU) in the amount of EUR 100 million and a contribution from the Vietnamese side of around EUR 17 million. The borrower is the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, which will pass the loan on to the sponsor Electricity of Vietnam (EVN). The project is being implemented by the subsidiaries EVN Hanoi and EVN HCMC. In the interests of coherence, the project is being implemented as parallel financing with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and follows a common approach in terms of structure, measures and standards. |
