Energy efficiency program - district heating

The FC project builds on the previous commitment to improving district heating systems, which includes donor contributions of over EUR 32 million (Germany, EU, Sweden, Luxembourg and Austria) and Kosovo's own contributions of EUR 5 million. It is intended to further add value to the heat extraction systems already installed in the Kosovo B power plant and the district heating main line. The project goal is to make a contribution to the cost-efficient modernization and expansion of the district heating supply in Pristina (Outcome). By achieving the project goal, the project will contribute to environmental and climate protection as well as to the economic and social development of Kosovo at the overarching development policy level by promoting improved energetic and cost-efficient heat provision through combined heat and power (Impact). Based on the positive experiences with the previous district heating commitment in Pristina, corresponding investments on the partner side are enjoying increased priority. In the Kosovo government's single project pipeline for the energy sector, the improvement of district heating systems ranks second. At the Pristina site, additional district heating investments offer the greatest potential, because the particularly resource-saving and cost-efficient heat energy from combined heat and power is only available there due to the proximity to the Kosovo B power plant.
