Energy Efficiency Sector Programme Power Transmission

As part of the FC measure Energy Efficiency Sector Programme Power Transmission, the electricity transmission network in Albania is to be modernised and expanded. The planned investments are necessary to maintain the Albanian energy infrastructure and reduce electricity supply bottlenecks. The two components (i) 220 kV transmission line Tirana - Rrashbull and (ii) 110 kV Tirana Ring are to be implemented under the programme. The objectives of the programme are to increase electricity transmission capacities in Albania (particularly in the area surrounding Tirana and Rrashbull) and to improve the security and quality of supply in Albania's electricity transmission system. The overarching development policy programme objectives are to contribute to global climate protection by reducing CO2 emissions and promoting the sustainable economic development of Albania. The estimated total costs amount to around EUR 45.0 million. The borrower and programme sponsor is the Albanian electricity transmission company Operatori Sistemit Transmetimit (OST). The programme is to be financed by a development credit (low-interest loan) of up to EUR 40 million. The sponsoring organisation OST's own contribution will amount to EUR 5 million.
