Description
Description | The objective of this TC is to: i) develop technical feasibility, environmental impact assessment and related activities necessary for a successful future implementation of at least 3 run of the river micro hydro projects, building on project profiles developed in the initial GAP analysis; and, ii) help the interface with private investors, public entities, non-governmental organizations and municipal governments to move ahead with project design and further negotiations closer as possible to final project implementation, including blue prints for project construction. The major aim once the actual projects are built is to have satisfied social and economic needs such as basic education, health services and communication services, based on community participation and providing for social inclusion and creating proper conditions for a sustainable rural development of excluded groups and individuals to development opportunities. The focus geographic area of this TC would be the Franja Transversal del Norte FTN and the activities would be developed in close coordination with the Energy Initiative of the Puebla Panama Plan (PPP) and other activities carried out under the GVEP program in Guatemala, such as the UNDP/TTF "GVEP Guatemala Plan: Energy for Poverty Reduction Phase II". The PPP Energy Initiative and GVEP are complementary between them because, as mentioned before the UNDP/TTF reviewed the GAP analysis revisited the communities and got in depth information based in the previous field work in 90 communities, selecting 70 for the feasibility studies and social organization arrangements. The PPP will provide GOG support for the inclusion of GVEP implementation plan in future loan negotiations with IDB and/or other financial institutions to build the projects. |
