Energy Sector Digitalisation Plan

The National Energy System Operator (NESO), in collaboration with the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and other partners, has launched the Energy Sector Digitalisation Plan. The plan outlines 16 key actions to digitalise the energy system to meet Clean Power 2030 requirements, addressing challenges across consumer simplicity, flexibility, grid decarbonisation, networks, system operability, and workforce. Key actions include aligning smart meter data access by mid-2027, developing an asset register for flexibility assets by October 2027, establishing standards for control room technology and communication by mid-2028, and creating a Digital Coordinator role in early 2026.
