The project aims to expand and sustainably operate the Nepalese grid infrastructure for hydroelectric power in order to contribute to an improved power supply and a reduction in transmission losses and CO2 emissions. This is to be achieved by financing a 220 kV transmission system (approx. 45 km transmission line and two substations) between Lekhnath and Damauli. With the planned transmission system, the hydroelectric power generated in western Nepal can be reliably fed into the national grid. The project is part of the development cooperation program to promote renewable energies, power transmission and efficient energy use in Nepal. The project sponsor is the state-owned energy supplier Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), which is supported in implementing the measures by an international implementation consultant and a specialized consultant for environmental and social compatibility. The total cost of the project amounts to approximately EUR 55 million, which will be financed partly from FC funds (budget grant of EUR 31 million) and a contribution from Nepal (EUR 24 million).
