Description | India's energy sector infrastructure includes 221 active projects with a revised total cost of ₹11.30 lakh crore. The Ministry of Power manages 102 central projects with a revised cost of ₹5.53 lakh crore. Notable projects include the commissioning of the transmission system for evacuation of power from Renewable Energy Zones in Rajasthan (20GW Phase-III Part E1) costing ₹688.74 crore, and the addition of the Kalai-II Hydro Electric Project (1200 MW) with an approved cost of ₹14,105.83 crore. The sector faces challenges such as design-lock failures causing systemic cost overruns of ₹5.65 lakh crore, delays in final project phases due to regulatory and connectivity issues, and supply chain vulnerabilities including shortages of HVDC equipment and commodity price shocks. |
