Enerjisa, a joint venture between Verbund (Austria) and Sabanci, developed the 89MW Menge hydropower plant, Seyhan River, Adapa, Southeast Turkey. The plant was expected to generate 202.6 GWh annually. The project developer held a 49 year generation license for the project, awarded in July 2006 and acquired by Enerjisa in 2008. The construction contract was awarded and executed by Ozaltin, and Cengiz from June 2009, together with the Kopru plant on the same river. The equipment supply contract, as well as design and installation of the Francis turbines, was awarded to Alstom Hydro and GES under a EUR 100 million contract from December 2008, which also included the Kavsakbendi and Kopru plants. Construction started in May 2009. Commissioning was initially estimated at November 2011, but this became February 2012. Total cost was unknown, but estimated at US$1.7 million/MW, or US$151.3 million. Financial closure date was unavailable, but estimated at February 2012, commissioning date. In 2012, Verbund sold its shares in Enerjisa to E.ON in exchange for 8 hydropower plants in Germany and a cash sum.
