Description
Description | The governments of Kenya and Uganda have made decisions to embrace Competence-Based Education (CBE) in all education levels. This paradigm shift started gradually with primary and secondary levels. Universities are expected to fully implement CBE in the years 2027 and 2029 for Uganda and Kenya, respectively. Since CBE is only currently implemented in very limited ways in both Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Kenya and Uganda, the AgriCBE project is designed to work with selected agricultural universities in UG and KE, the Kenyan and Ugandan Commissions for Higher Education, the ministries of education, the Inter University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) in collaboration with EU partners. The team will prepare locally contextualized CBE modules with piloted and tested tools and protocols for curricula planning, implementation and retooling of teachers. The overall objective is to strengthen the partner country education governance authority’s capacity to support competence-based work life relevant and inclusive higher education for societal and environmental development. The specific objectives are i) higher education governance authorities’ staff in KE and UG retooled for managing CBE, ii) guidelines for CBE-based industry collaboration for curricula planning and implementation created, iii) CBE master trainers trained to support rollout of CBE in HEIs, and iv) Strengthened capacity of commissions of higher education to further develop and contextualize CBE support in HEIs. The activities are wrapped into the following work packages (WP). WP 1: MANAGEMENT AND COORDINATION This will entail project management and coordination of the entire consortium to deliver the AgrCBE outputs. AgriCBE quality management will be based on participatory action research (PAR); where corrective actions after reflection are put in place to ensure embedding of the lessons learned immediately into the next project actions. WP2: COMPETENCE FRAMEWORK DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING: This |
