Comprehensive and effective customs and tax control, as well as crime prevention, require the development of analytics and data / data processing systems as the volume of data increases. The development of systematic information exchange and analysis is important for directing revealing activities and identifying targets, and thus for improving the effectiveness of Customs role to exposes fraud and crime. The significance and the amount of digital information, including evidence, continues to grow year-by-year. The amount of data also puts pressure to increase the speed of network capabilities, as well as to improve the overall capabilities of analysing large masses of data. This continuous growth both in the volume of data and the number of information sources, puts a burden on investigators working on especially complex cases. In order to fulfil the growing needs and expectations of data management and speed of handling needs to be increased greatly. In addition, dedicated resources for further development and utilization of methods in Artificial Intelligence (AI) are in high demand in order to properly take advantage of the data masses. Through the use of methods in AI, it is possible to harness the data masses and produce predictions, risk factors and unveil insights that enable early action against emerging trends in crime. This project is part of an on-going undertaking of increasing the efficiency of law enforcement and processing sensitive data related to detecting irregularities at Finnish Customs. This undertaking improves Finnish Customs’ ability to detect and expose fraud and other crimes. EUAF-funded ELTO-project is also a part of this undertaking. Centralized data storage and fast network connections enables to turn the growth of digital evidence from a challenge to an asset. Modern tools that enable investigators and analysts to receive, review and share their findings effectively improve the quality of the analysis and investigation process
