Description
Description | The Project, led by SNCF Réseau, aims to strengthen the hydraulic resilience of the French railway network, especially on the Atlantic and Mediterranean Corridors, in response to the growing impacts of climate change. This initiative addresses critical vulnerabilities in hydraulic infrastructure, which underpin the network's reliability, particularly given the increasing frequency of extreme weather events. It is part of a broader strategic framework aligned with the European Green Deal and aims to serve as a replicable model for other European infrastructure managers. The project is structured into three Work Packages (WP): - WP1 focuses on project management, EU grant monitoring, and communication; - WP2 includes comprehensive studies such as inventorying hydraulic assets, updating digital platforms, creating local hydraulic master plans, and exploring innovative resilience solutions; - WP3 involves targeted hydraulic interventions in 11 priority zones identified as vulnerable areas on the network, addressing critical sections on TEN-T corridors. Through these activities, the project seeks to mitigate disruptions caused by hydraulic failures, improve safety, and enhance operational reliability. It will also optimise resource allocation by prioritising preventive over reactive maintenance. The integration of advanced monitoring systems and innovative engineering solutions will not only reduce economic and environmental costs but also extend the longevity of the railway infrastructure. By addressing climate-related vulnerabilities and fostering cross-border connectivity, this project contributes to the resilience of European rail transport. It demonstrates a proactive approach to infrastructure adaptation, aligning with EU priorities for sustainable and climate-resilient mobility, while reinforcing the role of railways as a cornerstone of low-carbon transportation. |
