Description
Description | The leather industry in Uganda and Tanzania is very prominent, but underdeveloped. It can be improved with the introduction of sustainable production strategies such as the guided use of alternative resources, techniques for waste management and continuous professional training with modernized content materials. The project aims to establish two 'Centers of Excellence' for developing the leather industry and technology. The African beneficiaries will be four partners, two universities and two private sector entities from each country. Those 'Centers of Excellence' will provide support services to the leather industry, such as professional training and upskilling, seminars on modern production technologies, export strategies. Also, they will offer their help with consultant services and the presentation of innovative leather products. Extracurricular courses and practical training for students and other individuals are included. By its completion, the project will contribute to the upskilling and professional training of persons wishing to work in the very promising leather processing sector. What is more, it is going to support enterprises and encourage the establishment of new ones, combat unemployment and boost this sector of the national economy. Furthermore, it has the ability to strengthen the cooperation between the EU and partners from both countries. Last but not least, it will encourage the creation of other such centers. In total, this project will contribute massively to the overall development of Uganda and Tanzania. |
