ENJOY – Enhancing Joy of Reading and boosting readership among children - is a joint initiative of 3 independent publishers of children literature from Poland. It is targeted towards children aged 3-9, adult carers and reading advisors/intermediaries. Our main goal is to meet a strong need for creating readership habits among children with little or no access to high-quality European children literature. Joy of Reading as a substantive theme describes our approach to perform all planned activities: a reading habit is built by creating enjoyable, aesthetic and sensory reading experience. Our consortium brings together years of experience on publishing high quality children’s literature, practice in international literary projects and joint analysis of our audience needs. We will publish 21 books translated from a total of 10 languages with a total print run of 42,000 copies. It is a careful selection of titles highlighting cultural and aesthetic diversity written and illustrated by acknowledged European authors that are not widely recognized in Poland. Our joint activities will establish a solid and sustainable cooperation between independent, creative publishers, libraries, kindergartens and reading promotion organizations and will allow us to continue our mission in a long-term perspective.
