Description

Description

Roughly 55% of all homes in the Netherlands and 75% in Belgium are in private ownership. As homeowners themselves decide when and what to invest in their house, they have a big influence on whether or not the CO2 emission reduction targets will be achieved by 2020. Before investing, homeowners have to be able identify with options for increasing sustainability. Unfortunately, does not fit in with the current supply in the construction sector. ENLEB's aim is to bring the homeowner and the construction sector together, so that energy efficiency, energy generation and innovation become a joint objective. Smart combinations of building physics, installation technology, sustainable energy generation and storage, together with an appealing financial feature, are contributing to achieving the energy goals for 2020. Energy-efficient demo homes are being put on show in eleven neighbourhoods within the border region. In five demo homes, innovations are being implemented and demonstrated to foster inspiration and awareness among homeowners and companies. One home in the Netherlands and one residential unit in Flanders, for example, are being fitted with DC technology: the latest developments are being demonstrated in these state-of-the-art homes. Here, research questions specifically focus on the field of law and legislation: is it possible to lease social housing equipped with direct current and what are the required steps to do so? In addition, in 9 neighbourhoods (6 in Flanders and 3 in the Netherlands, with a total of more than 3,700 addresses), a QuickScan of the needs and an analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the districts are being carried out in order to make a success of co-creation. The QuickScan includes an urban planning analysis and energy profile of each neighbourhood, a strengths and weaknesses analysis, a trend analysis with regard to demographic developments and an inventory of financial scope in the district. This is done on the basis of interviews, home visits and statistical data to produce a profile of each neighbourhood to which specific approaches apply. This knowledge is processed and pooled in an 'ENLEB Menu'. The knowledge already available from other Interreg projects, such as Demi More and See2do!, is also being processed.
