ENNHRI is the only European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs). It has 42 members from 27 eligible states, contributing to more access to justice throughout the European Union for the effective enjoyment of rule of law and fundamental rights by all individuals in the EU. The network’s first objective is more and stronger NHRIs, in line with the UN Paris Principles. Tailored advice on NHRI establishment and accreditation, support to NHRIs under threat, guidance on the accreditation process, and expert support on the UN Paris Principles will result in more A-status accredited NHRIs in Europe. The second objective is greater implementation of fundamental rights. ENNHRI organises working groups, trainings and events on European law and developments relating to fundamental rights, resulting in more coherent implementation of EU law. The collation and analysis of data, development of recommendations, and engagement with European actors will help ensure fundamental rights compliance. The third objective is a stronger network of NHRIs, for cooperation, mutual trust and solidarity. Enhanced member engagement, through a Members’ Area and governance meetings, will result in greater participation, cooperation and trust. Organisational development and management activities will also create a stronger, more accountable and sustainable network of NHRIs. 2019 outputs will, amongst others, include: 1 annual conference, 3 submissions,15 Governance meetings, 4 in-country visits, 6 capacity development events, 6 working group meetings, 18 engagement meetings 6 publications, various newsletters a social media communications. About 12 Secretariat staff, 28 heads of NHRIs, 150 NHRI staff, 50 EU policymakers, 35 experts of European fundamental rights bodies, 450 members of public will benefit from ENNHRI’s work in 2019.
