In 2020 ENNHRI will continue to promote and protect human rights across wider Europe. We will provide tailored support for the establishment and accreditation of NHRIs in compliance with the Paris Principles, complementing the aim of the EU’s Justice Agenda. Increasingly, European NHRIs are under threat. In order to ensure NHRI independence and access to justice, ENNHRI will update its respective policy and coordinate with partners rapid responses when requested. Given the launch of the Commission Communication ‘Strengthening the rule of law within the Union A blueprint for action’, the appointment of new Commissioners and election of MEPs, ENNHRI will promote the further recognition of the NHRIs and through that contribute Democracy and Rule of Law within the EU. Together with FRA, a new study on NHRIs will be published and disseminated. Our 2020 theme will be Asylum and Migration. An overview report and leaflet with policy recommendations will be published, coordination meetings with European and national stakeholders held and a high-level conference organized. Thematic work on ESR will be led by the secretariat, while ENNHRI will put in place tools and processes that support members-led work for SDGs, BHR, CRPD and Older Persons rights. The role of NHRIs regarding AI will be explored. The first Leadership Forum will take place and capacity building activities will be organized e.g. on execution of ECtHR judgments. While Communicating Human Rights stands at the center of our dissemination strategy, supported by a new website. Outputs will include: 1 annual conference, submissions,18 governance meetings, 4 in-country visits, 3 capacity developments, 4 working group meetings, 18 engagement meetings, 5 publications, 10 member and 4 stakeholder newsletters. About 12 Secretariat staff, 45 heads of NHRIs, 320 NHRI staff, 50 EU policymakers, 10 experts of European fundamental rights bodies, 270 members of public will directly benefit from ENNHRI’s work.
