Environmental statistics for sustainability

The proposed project responds to the generic call to support the development of more and better data and statistics to underpin the policies under sustainability policies. The project consists of two separate work packages. The first work package addresses activity 2.1 of the call “Produce new and further improve previous estimates of ecosystem accounts according to the specifications in Regulation (EU) No 691/2011…”. In this work package physical supply and use tables of the crop pollination, the local climate regulation and the air filtration services will be produced according to the methodological guidance notes of the task force on ecosystem services. The accounts will be compiled with the use of the INCA tool made available by Eurostat with the aim of replacing as much as possible default data sets with national data sets. In the final project report the different estimations will be compared. For crop pollination service a trial monetary valuation will be performed. Grant reports by other countries serve as guidance with respect to monetary valuation. The second work package addresses activity 2.10 “Improve the statistical quality of environmental accounts, in particular the development or enhancement of processes, including digitally based solutions that aim to produce statistics of a higher quality”. Actions planned in this respect involve the adaptation of a data base that up to now is used only for energy statistical purposes to include the collection and analysis of environment data that is used for the compilation of the Environmental Protection Expenditure Accounts as well as the Environmental Goods and Services Sector Accounts.
