Description

Description

The aim of the project is, on the one hand, to reduce the discharge of untreated wastewater into the Ganges and thus improve its water quality, and, on the other hand, to expand and improve the supply of the urban population with environmentally relevant infrastructure, in particular the wastewater infrastructure, in two cities in Uttarakhand. The plan is to build or rehabilitate sewage networks, pumping stations and sewage treatment plants in Haridwar and Rishikesh - two medium-sized cities along the Ganges. In order to promote a high connection rate for households living in the project area, house connections for black and grey water will also be financed as part of the project. Since Haridwar and Rishikesh are important Indian pilgrimage sites, not only the residents of the two cities but also numerous pilgrims and tourists benefit from the improved hygiene situation. In addition, the environmental situation for the people in the Ganges catchment areas will be improved.
