Description

Description

Located in the middle of the sea between Wido Island in Buan-gun, Jeollabuk-do and Anma Island in Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do, the site is engaged in a project to install 2.5GW of offshore wind power energy under the government's Renewable Energy 3020 Plan. 2.5 GW is equivalent to five coal-fired power plants. Despite the advantages of using wind, which is an infinite natural source of energy, existing onshore wind power has been difficult to proceed with the project due to noise and vibration. Therefore, the focus has now shifted to the sea. Offshore wind power has been developed early in developed countries due to low impact on residents in terms of noise and vibration.Korea, jointly invested by Korea Electric Power Corporation and six power generation companies, also established Korea Marine Wind Power and carried out the 2.5GW Southwest Sea Offshore Wind Power Project as its first project. The project cost totals 12.8 trillion won, and it will be carried out in three stages: demonstration, pilot, and deployment. The site of the Southwest Sea offshore wind power demonstration complex promoted by Hyundai E&C involves installing a total of 20 3MW offshore wind generators (60MW) as the first piece of puzzle of the entire project. The power generation capacity of 60MW is the amount of electricity that can be supplied to 50,000 households (four members per one household) for a year. Hyundai E&C was in charge of manufacturing and installing 18 jacket-type foundation structures and transporting and installing 203MW wind power generators, while Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction was in charge of execution design of foundational structures and manufacturing wind power generators. The site of the coastal wind power demonstration complex in the southwest sea is Korea's first power generation complex for demonstration and the first offshore wind power project by Hyundai E&C Since it has a unique meaning, it has put perfect quality control as its top goal. At the site, quality employees were stationed at Hyundai Steel Industry's Yulchon plant, where foundation structures are manufactured, to ensure timely delivery and top quality.Of the total 20 foundation structures, 18 were constructed with a Jacket type. The jacket type is a method in which the Jacket Pile and Pin Pile are firmly fixed by hitting or punching the bottom sedimentary layer and the bedrock layer, and then wrapping the pile with a jacket structure. As it enters close to 38m and 56m respectively from the seabed, it is highly supportive and protects wind power generators from dangerous factors such as pile corrosion or collision. When integrating the jacket pile with the pin pile, the site used the Grouting Method (strongly injecting cement, etc. into the strata). For offshore projects, although it is common to transport Mortar (a mixture of cement, lime, and sand mixed in water) from land to sea, Grouting barge vessel enabling Batcher Plant was built to produce mortar, thereby ensuring top quality.
