Description
Description | The EMJM in Physiology and Medicine of Humans in Space and Extreme Environments (SpaceMed) is a completely new and fully integrated Master which offers a full-time two-year 120 ECTS MSc programme with European Mobility. It is offered jointly by three European Higher Education Institutions where leading scientists in the field of human space and extreme environments physiology have joined forces, pooled resources, and developed common mechanisms for quality assurance: Université de Caen Normandie, France (UCN-FR); Charité Universitätsmedizin at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Germany (Charité-DE); Mednarodna podiplomska šola Jožefa Stefana at Institut Jožef Stefan, Ljubljana, Slovenia (MPS-SI). This programme also involves associated partners (space agencies, research organizations, firms), each of them having specific fields of expertise. The objectives of this Master's degree are to provide graduates with a high level of knowledge and competencies in physiology and space medicine. Specifically, the objectives of this Master's degree are to: (a) train future researchers; (b) train doctors and scientists who will be involved in medical aptitude and medical supervision of space flight; (c) educate top skilled engineers who will be able to design, optimize, operate, and validate aerospace life support systems; (d) provide students with an international network as well as a genuine European learning and an integrated multicultural and language experience. This Master has a single track with a simple and straightforward organisation: a first semester at UCN-FR, a second semester at Charité-DEa third semester at MPS-SI and a fourth semester dedicated to a Master thesis in any location. The curriculum places strong emphasis on hands-on activities in state-of-the-art laboratories and field studies, including space flight analogues and extreme environments, such as those experienced at high altitude, underwater, and in hot and cold, dry and humid environments. |
