Eärendil-1 Satellite with 60-foot Mirror

A satellite project by Reflect Orbital involving a prototype satellite carrying a nearly 60-foot square mirror designed to reflect sunlight back to Earth after dark. The mirror aims to extend daylight for solar farms, provide emergency lighting during disasters, and illuminate construction sites and city streets at night. The satellite will be launched into low Earth orbit at about 400 miles altitude and will reflect sunlight onto a circular area roughly three miles wide on Earth's surface. The company plans to expand the constellation to as many as 50,000 satellites by 2035 with larger mirrors.
