Eritrea - Asmara Infrastructure Development Study

The present project relates to the Asmara Infrastructure Development Study. It’s initiated because of the need to support the Government of Eritrea’s efforts to reconstruct and revitalise the country’s economy as a vehicle to achieve its ultimate goal of poverty alleviation and social justice. The study is aimed at formulating a strategic development plan within which such investments should be undertaken in Greater Asmara, it should contribute to the achievement of the country’s goals. A feasibility study to be carried out within the framework of the study should enable the Government to seek funding for the highest priority project in the urban transport sub-sector, the one sector that currently present the greatest constraints to economic interaction between Asmara and the villages surrounding it; and the water supply and sanitation sub-sector, which is presenting a major health hazard, especially in the very low-income settlements in Greater Asmara. The study should be implemented in three phases: (i) strategic Urban Development Plan, (ii) feasibility Study, and (iii) Detailed Design.
