Eritrea - Emergency Reconstruction Program

The present intervention concerns the Emergency Reconstruction Programme. It’s conceived because of the scale and intensity of devastation faced by the people of Eritrea as a result of the war with Ethiopia. The country also suffered from a prolonged drought. With the help of the development partners, Eritrea had put in place a realistic and comprehensive multi-donor emergency reconstruction programme (ERP) of USD 288 million for economic and social development to primarily restore economic and social opportunities to war and drought affected communities thereby alleviating poverty. The present programme aims to replace the massive losses of economic assets that would enable the affected households and business concerns to resume normal economic activity and livelihoods. It comprises three main components, namely: (i) agriculture, (ii) social protection, and (iii) project management.
