Eritrea - Groundwater Assessment, Aquifer Mapping and Well Development Project

The Groundwater Assessment, Aquifer Mapping and Well Development Project is part of the preparatory activities that will lead to effective implementation of the investment operation (RWSISPRC). It consists of two main components, namely: 1) Groundwater assessment and aquifer mapping; 2) Development of production wells from priority aquifers, supervision of the drilling of the 13 production wells, supervision of the well pumping test, sampling and analysis of water quality (chemical and biological). The scope of the preparatory activities includes the identification of consultants to conduct detailed hydrogeological studies and aquifer mapping, including geophysical surveys. Activities also include the identification of priority aquifers and the recruitment of a drilling company to construct production wells, test them and perform water quality tests prior to recovery for the operation of the investment project (RWSISPRC). The practical and direct use of the results of this project will notably provide sustainable water for rural communities in the country.
