Eritrea: Emergency Reconstruction Supplemental Project

The objective of this Supplemental Grant, is to mitigate the effects of drought, and fulfill the Emergency Reconstruction Project objectives of long term reconstruction, and economic recovery. The program consists of three main components: agriculture, social protection, and infrastructure rehabilitation. The grant will help mitigate the consequences of the drought by (a) providing assistance to drought affected farmers, and increasing their income through the combined use of seeds, and fertilizers along with other complementary inputs, and, (b) contributing to long term economic recovery, by rehabilitating basic economic, and social infrastructure. Major risks however, relate to the disruption of program activities due to continued drought, as well as a deteriorating security situation, and continued manpower shortages, because of lack of progress with demobilization.
