The FC project PLAE VI makes a contribution to the DC program Protection and Sustainable Use of Natural Resources in Madagascar. The aim of the FC measure is The sustainable management of the areas in the selected intervention communities contributes to the restoration of tree-rich landscapes, sustainable wood production and erosion protection. At the same time, the income situation in the intervention zones is to be significantly improved, in the short term through income from agroforestry measures and in the medium to long term through (energy wood) reforestation and generally through income diversification. The FC module is intended to support small farmers (if there is potential, also private or private sector actors), livestock farmers and communities in sustainable land management and, based on this, in securing land use rights. The FC module also aims at the comprehensive implementation of agroforestry, community forests and sustainable pastoral management in the sense of a landscape approach. Participatory and precise local land use planning is required as a basis for the management measures and will be supported as needed. Erosion protection also protects agricultural sites further downstream, such as irrigation perimeters/water catchment areas, from erosion and silting.
