Description

Description

Founded in 2013, Chaldal (or “the Company”) is the leading online grocery delivery company in Bangladesh. The key categories of products sold by the company include fruits and vegetables. The company sources and  carries its inventory of products in its five warehouses and a sourcing hub in Dhaka, located in leased buildings (apartments/individual buildings) in various parts of Dhaka. A typical warehouse is spread over two/three floors and has rack storage space, refrigerators, storage areas for packed fruits and vegetables, receiving and dispatch areas and cleaning area for the delivery bins.     The key product categories of the company include perishables (e.g. fresh fruits and vegetables, meat and fish, eggs), frozen products (meat, fish and ice-creams), stapes (e.g. rice, dal, spices), packaged food, household cleaning items, stationary and personal care and baby care products. Most of the products are sourced from multi-national fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) manufacturing companies. Fruits and vegetables are sourced a local agricultural produce market (wet market) whereas meat, fish and eggs are sourced from local suppliers. Chaldal delivers through a fleet of vans (for larger orders) and motorbikes (for smaller orders). All delivery workers are employees and most vehicles are currently owned by the company.    The proposed investment (“Project”) consists of up to US$ 2 million in equity in order to finance the expansion of the company.
