Description

Description

Eskasoni First Nation will develop and deploy a 583 kW-DC ground mounted Solar PV System at the Seafood Storage and Shipping facility at Sydney, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. The on-site renewable energy generation system will reduce overall energy demands, and in turn lower energy costs, for the facility. The reduction in overall energy needs will allow re-purposing of these crucial funds to areas that are already under-funded resulting in a significantly positive effect on the communities. Eskasoni First Nation has a 50% equity stake in the facility, and 100% equity in the co-located lobster pound. Eskasoni First Nation will own and operate the project assets. Eskasoni First Nation will be the Ultimate Recipient of the funding and will receive 100% of the economic benefits of the project (i.e. the electricity bill savings). The project will directly reduce GHG emissions, while supporting clean growth for local communities. Further, the project provides an opportunity to train community members in the installation and basic maintenance programs required for these systems. The technology is commercially available within Canada, and can be deployed quickly and efficiently. Major components for this project are solar PV modules, inverters, cables, monitoring devices, and racking systems.
