Eskom, South Africa's main power company, is transforming the energy sector by enabling direct solar power purchases for large industries and planning to add 2 gigawatts of solar and wind capacity by 2026, with a target of 32 gigawatts of renewables by 2040. This initiative aims to reduce coal dependence, cut carbon emissions, and promote sustainable and reliable electricity supply. The project includes the establishment of a dedicated renewables division and investments in emerging technologies like green hydrogen.
