Description | Eskom has launched its first renewable energy offtake program to promote solar energy adoption in South Africa. The program involves issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) inviting large power users to procure 291 MW of solar PV from Eskom's renewable energy facilities. The initiative aligns with Eskom's strategy to diversify from a coal-dominated grid, targeting 2 GW of ready-to-deploy renewables by 2026 and up to 32 GW by 2040. The utility will supply renewable electricity to shortlisted bidders under long-term power purchase agreements ranging from five to 25 years. The first solar projects are expected to come online by December 2027. |
