The Espace Gabrielle Chanel is mainland China's first public library entirely dedicated to contemporary art, located on the third floor of the historic Power Station of Art in Shanghai. The library spans approximately 1,700 square meters and houses over 50,000 volumes including books, catalogs, essays, audio editions, and audiovisual materials related to art, design, architecture, culture, and social sciences. The complex also includes a renovated exhibition hall, a 300-seat theater, a design center, and a terrace on the Huangpu River with relaxation areas and a café. The architecture, designed by Japanese architect Kazunari Sakamoto, transforms the former industrial space into a fluid and harmonious environment, symbolizing the flow of the river and the vibrant energy of Shanghai.
