Economic/Social Impact of the Project The proposed repowering power project will use pulverized-fuel fired Steam Generator technology to produce steam which will be further used to generate power using back pressure steam turbine and existing Steam Turbine. Main fuel for the power plant will be coal, which will be imported. EPoL and BPL Capacity after repowering will be 199-200 MW and 232 MW respectively. Presently, Essar Power LTD & Bhander Power Limited are 515 MW and 500 MW Gas based Combined Cycle Power Plants at Hazira. The plant configuration consists of three Gas Turbines of 110 MW capacity each and one steam turbine of 185 MW capacity at EPoL and three Gas Turbines 100 MW, 108 & 110 MW capacity respectively and two Steam Turbine Generators [STG 1 & 2 of 56 MW and 129 MW capacity respectively] at BPL. These plants are not being run due to non-availability of Natural Gas at feasible price. The total cost of the Repowered Projects would be INR 1256 Crore [EPoL- INR 600 Crore & BPL- INR 656 Crore]
