Essilor International (Compagnie Générale d’Optique SA Essilor, hereafter ‘Essilor’) is setting up a manufacturing operation for optical lenses in Savannakhet, Lao PDR (hereafter ‘Essilao’). The facility will manufacture polycarbonate eyeglass lenses, a type of optical lenses highly resistant to impact and particularly adapted for children. The proposed IFC investment will support the establishment and operations of this facility. Essilor a leading manufacturer of prescription lenses. It is headquartered in Charenton-le-Pont, France and listed on the Paris Stock Exchange. Employees are Essilor’s largest shareholder (8%). Essilor sells lenses globally with 22 production facilities in 13 countries. In 2012, Essilor sold over 400 million lenses, representing total revenues of €4.99 billion. Essilor, through its wholly-owned subsidiary ESSIDEV, is the sole shareholder of Essilao.
