Establishing 4 new energy agencies in Spain to support the delivery of the clean energy transition

Energy agencies are organizations dedicated to promoting the energy transition within a specific territory (e.g. municipality) with public mandate and governance, aimed at designing energy strategies/policies, supporting the implementation of projects and facilitating investments in clean energy The objective of this proposal is to support the establishment and operation of four (4) local energy agencies in Spain where there is a strong need for support to achieve the EU objectives for 2030 and 2050 - One energy agency will be establised in Rivas Municipality, fast growing city in Spain, which needs strong support to create an energy plan and specific initiatives on energy efficiency, renewables and digitalization, improving the local energy infrastructure. - Three other energy agencies will be established in three different Mancommunities (local public authority grouping municipalities) in outmost region of island Gran Canaria. The need for energy self-sufficiency and strong energy deficiency are at the heart of the islands which, on this occasion, add the difficulty of the lack of grid connection with other islands and the long distance to mainland Spain (more than 1,000 km). The establishment of four local energy agencies will provide a support structure for the local authorities to ensure energy supply on competitive terms, increase energy efficiency (transport, SMEs and others), increase self-sufficiency in locally produced renewables.. Digitalization and energy innovation will be promoted. The consortium includes experts in energy agencies setting-up and operation. The participation of FEDARENE (the EU Federation of Regional and Local Energy Agencies) assures great replication and upscaling of the project results. The participation of Cabildo GC provides experience in energy management in islands. The proposal includes Letters of Commitment from Local Authorities which will set-up the 4 energy agencies and LoS from IDAE (Nat.En. Agency)
