ETCS Baseline 3 upgrades, retrofits and fitments for electric freight locomotives of Railpool

The project covers the deployment of ERTMS Level 1 & 2, Baseline 3 on 178 locomotives of the following types: - Bombardier TRAXX AC2: 1 Upgrade Prototype International, 1 Serial Upgrade International and 22 Serial Retrofit International; - Bombardier TRAXX AC3: 1 Upgrade Prototype International, 7 Upgrade Serial International, 10 Fitments; - Siemens VECTRON: 111 Fitments for different variants; - Bombardier TRAXX DC3:19 Upgrades Serial National and 6 Fitments. All locomotives are owned by Railpool 7 GmbH & CO KG and are or will be leased to different European railway undertakings. The locomotives operate mainly on the European TEN-T Core Network Corridors. The TRAXX AC2 and AC3 locomotives run in Sweden and Norway, the Bombardier TRAXX DC3 – one part in Italy and another part in Poland. The new built Siemens VECTRON locomotives will be operated in various countries in Europe. The project is part of the Railpool’ strategy to equip the company’s fleet of locomotives operating on the TEN-T Core Network Corridors with ERTMS Baseline 3. Through the deployment of ERTMS Baseline 3 on the considerable number of freight locomotives included in the project, a positive effect on the interoperability of the EU core and comprehensive network and on the competitiveness of the rail freight transport will be achieved in a long-term perspective. The early investment in ERTMS will ensure a smooth and continuous operation of the rail freight services in the period of transition of the Member States’ infrastructure towards more advanced train protection system of Class A.
