Ethiopia - Primary Health Care Project

The present intervention concerns the Primary Health Care Project. It aims to improve the health status of the communities in the three regions of Amhara, Oromiya and Southern Nations, Nationalities and peoples' Region (SNNPR). The planned project outputs are: i) rehabilitation of 41 health centres, ii) rehabilitation and expansion of 9 health centres, iii) upgrading of 16 clinics to health centres, iv) construction of 41 Primary Health Care Units; v) and rehabilitation of two in-service training schools. The project comprises two components. The first component is the health facilities: this component involves the Rehabilitation, upgrading and construction of new health facilities as well as supply of furniture, equipment and essential drugs in Amhara, Oromia and SNNRP. The second component concerns the Human Resource Development: this component involves the provision of long and short-term training for key staff involved in the planning, management and delivery of health care services.
