Ethiopia - Telecommunications II Project

The Telecommunications II Project aims to expand telecommunication services in Ethiopia ln order to meet the present and future demand by increasing the number of the telephone subscribers and upgrading rural services. The expansion of telecommunication services should facilitate economic recovery and growth. The project covers the following components: A) Local Network including (i) Conversion of existing 58 manual exchanges to semi-automatic, ii) Extension of Outside Plant, by approximately 314,500 pair kms in Addis Ababa, Dessie and Jimma, iii) Procurement of 161,900 telephone apparatus 370 PABXs and other subscriber equipment; B) Trunk and Junction Network which comprises i) construction of main microwave route (Addis Ababa-Hiwot-Nekemtie), ii) construction of Intra-urban Junctions ln Addis Ababa and l5 regional digital microwave links in Dessie, Mekele Jimma and Bahir Dar Primary Areas, iii) Installation of 14 Rural Telecommunication systems and C) Procurement of Power Plant and Air-conditioning; motor vehicles and auxiliary equipment.
